Follow these two configuration conditions to understand HA failover timers in Versa Director.

Configuration Condition 1

When the configuration is set to:

[Auto switchover – disabled, Auto switch over timer = 90, failover timeout = 60, slave start timeout = 120] VD1= Designated master, VD2 = Slave

• Case 1: To switch over to slave.

   [Switch off VD 1 which]
  Time taken for switch over = 60 sec

  
  

• Case 2: To bring up VD1 back

  Time taken for switch over = 60 sec  

Configuration Condition 2

When the configuration is set to:

[Auto switchover – enabled, Auto switch over timer = 90, failover timeout = 60, slave start timeout = 120] VD1= Designated master, VD2 = Slave

• Case 1: To switch over to slave.

   [Switch off VD 1 which]

  Time taken for switch over = close to 2min 30 sec

Question:

Does this tie include auto switch over time + failover time?

Solution:

The time taken for switchover = only the auto switch over timeout.

Question:

When is the slave start timer required?

Solution:

The slave start timer is required in a scenario when both the Versa Director nodes come up (activate) at the same time. The node that is not designated as the master node waits for this timeout, thereby giving a chance to the designated master to set itself as the master node.
